Obesity is a complex and multifaceted condition requiring tailored, multidisciplinary solutions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2022, approximately 2.5 billion adults—43% of the global population aged 18 and over—were classified as overweight. Of these, 890 million individuals were living with obesity.

To combat this escalating global challenge, the BIO-STREAMS project has joined forces with several Horizon Europe sibling initiatives, as highlighted in its first joint press release. Over time, additional projects have joined, and this results in synergies with Obelisk, healthyW8, SHIFT2HEALTH, BETTER4U, Pas Gras, OBCT, eprObes, and CoDiet.

These partnerships facilitate knowledge sharing, foster innovative strategies, and enable coordinated actions to address obesity from various angles, leveraging cutting-edge science, technology, and targeted dissemination efforts.

The collaboration among these projects has given rise to a dedicated cluster—the obesity cluster (OBEClust)—representing an unprecedented alliance of European initiatives addressing obesity. This cluster is a testament to the collective commitment to combat stigma surrounding obesity and unify efforts through shared methodologies, expertise, and resources.

Within OBEClust, several working groups and activities have been established, bringing together experts to collaborate on common approaches. Key working groups focus on technology, governance, communication & dissemination, artificial intelligence, guidelines, and other scientific themes. This structure amplifies the impact of each project, fostering a united approach to addressing obesity across Europe.
